Millions of people around the world are interested in the newest fashion trend: tattoos. Tattoos, which were once considered appropriate for bikers alone, are now showing up on people of all ages and occupations. Tattoos are the hottest accessory out there. If you are interested in getting a tattoo, but are not sure if you want to mark your body permanently, you should consider these long lasting temporary tattoos options before you get the real thing. These three types of long lasting temporary tattoos are the most popular and best looking alternatives to a traditional and permanent tattoo.

Henna Tattoos

Henna tattoos are a form of ancient Indian and Middle Eastern art. They have been done for thousands of years and are seen as a spiritual act as well as an art form. You can typically find henna tattoo artist in tourist spots like the beach. The process involves the artist painting your body with a henna mixture that includes henna leaves, black tea, and other ingredients like paprika. Everything is very natural and safe, unless you are allergic to anything in the mixture.

The henna designs are traditionally very elegant, although some henna artists will paint anything you wish. After painting the design, the artist will apply a lemon paste over the tattoo and it will be left there for three hours or more. The color of a henna tattoo can be a range of brown or black. Each person will develop a different color. The tattoo will last around two weeks if properly cared for.

Airbrushed Tattoos

If you are looking for something a little less permanent or something with a modern feel, you might want to try airbrushed tattoos. Airbrushed tattoos are done in a way similar to airbrushing a t-shirt. Again, there are an abundance of airbrush artists near the beach or other tropical tourist locations. An airbrush artist uses airbrush machinery and paint to apply your tattoo. Most artists use stencils to do this, although some will free hand their work. You can get a wide variety of colors with an airbrush tattoo. They have a more modern feel. The typical airbrush tattoo will last around three days.

Stick-On Tattoos

For a quick tattoo, you can always consider stick-on tattoos. You can find stick-on tattoos at many costume and party stores. These tattoos can be done yourself by following the directions on the package. Although they were once reserved for children, today's stick-on tattoos are also created with adults in mind. You can find more designs that are suitable for adults than ever before. Stick-on tattoos can last from 2 hours to 6 days, depending on the quality of the tattoo.

No matter which long lasting temporary tattoos you want to try, they are all very accessible. You can try them one at a time, or all three at once. They are perfect for a party or for a trip to the beach. You can enjoy the look of a tattoo without having to make a permanent commitment which makes long lasting temporary tattoos perfect for anyone.

Literary and word tattoo designs are some of the hottest out there. There is definitely a growing trend for letter tattoo designs. However, finding the right saying, the best location on the body and what type of fonts or script to get the design ink done in can be a challenge. This mini guide will help you break down the process for getting your own letter tattoo design quickly and easily.

Choosing The Saying
The first thing that you will want to do of course is choose a saying. Often if you are even thinking about getting a written tattoo saying or design you probably have some ideas in your head already. It might be a favorite poem, a biblical verse or even the names of your children or a significant person in your life. It is best to choose something that is significant and holds power to you and something that you think it timeless. For example getting the name of your current girlfriend of the week is definitely a bad idea. However, a saying or something to remember a lost loved one by is something that will hold true to the test of time.

If you are at a loss of ideas the best thing to do is to wait and do some deep and personal searching for ideas. It is best not to just want the tattoo so badly that you go with any old saying that your friends or the tattoo artist recommends. This will not hold much meaning or significance for you in the long run. However, if you kind of know the general idea of what you want to say or even have a rough quote but you are not 100% sure of the exact saying, quote or poem then searching online can be very helpful. There are a ton of quote sites and you can often find the exact quote you want. If you can not locate it easily you might want to try one of the current questions sites like Yahoo Answers!

Choosing The Font

The second thing that you will want to consider carefully is the font. There are so many different styles of fonts out there to choose from. You can try looking through computerized font directories as a starting place. The even bigger question though is the overall look and feel of the font you want. For example are you looking for something in an old English font, a calligraphy font or a graffiti style. Once you get the rough and general look of the font you want then you can narrow it down by searching online font directories or even a tattoo design site which many have a ton of great tattoo specific fonts already loaded to them. A third option is to take the ideas to a professional tattoo artist and see what they can do with it. Many tattoo artists can do incredible freehand lettering and embellishments super easily and quickly and they look great.

Choosing The Location

Last but not least you will want to choose th location on your body. In fact this might be a first step also as the location is super important. It plays a significant role in the size of the tattoo design and the amount of detail you can get done in the tattoo. Typically a small tattoo design should be less intricate then a design where there is a larger amount of canvas or skin. So a foot letter tattoo is going to be much more simple and have less embellishments then a large upper back lettering tattoo. The size and location can also play a role in how much text or how many words you can easily fit into the space. Therefore the location is super important to the overall design.

One of the biggest trends in tattoo designs is going to be word, literary and written tattoos of popular and cool quotes or sayings. There are many different names for these styles of tattoos but essential they all feature one major growing trend in tattoo designs and that is the trend of the written word.

Word Tattoo History
Of course word tattoos have always been around. A tattoo that features some lettering artwork is often less expensive and pretty easily done and therefore it has always been a pretty popular option. However, words were typically used as an embellishment to the main course so to speak. In other words (pun intended) the graphic artwork of the tattoo design always took the center stage in the past. The only real exception to this rule was a memorial or gang related design. Other than those two usually the words were simply to convey the meaning of the picture or the design of the tattoo and the words were never really thought of as the design itself.

As in everything in the world design trends change all the time. So it is with word and literary tattoo designs they have gone through a massive change. No longer are words just seen at the bottom of a large graphical tattoo design but now they are the main feature. These tattoos often feature very large sections of writing and large fonts with huge cursive lines and beautiful embellishments. These are incredible beautiful font tattoos that often feature a famous quote, a famous poem or a song lyric.

Popular Locations For Women
This trend has been picked up by men and women alike. Just as many women are getting their tattoo quotes as men. Some of the more popular locations for women to get such designs are a bit different than men.

Ankle Tattoo Designs – Since the ankle is relatively small it does not provide a bunch of space for a large format tattoo. Thus it often becomes on of the top chosen places for a small written word. These are often cute delicate tattoos with lots of embellished fonts that can wrap around the ankle.

Wrist Tattoo Designs – Wrist tattoos are a lot like ankle tattoos in terms of features and benefits of the location. Just like ankle tattoos the wrist is small, often a great place for a single word that curves around the wrist. Also hands and wrist are a feature that often get noticed so a well planned and well placed wrist tattoo will get a lot of attention.

Hip Tattoos – Hip tattoos are well (excuse the pun) but hip. Anything but on the hip is popular and sexy. This most definitely includes a fancy written tattoo design. If you choose a larger quote or poem and can find the right font to convey the meaning of the poem or saying then you have one great hip tattoo design.

Rib Cage Tattoos – Of course rib cage tattoos can be in a variety of locations but the side of the rib cage is one of the hottest locations right now in design trends. Traditionally people were a bit reluctant to get this area tattoo as it can be a bit painful since the skin and bone are close together. However, more and more people are getting rib cage tattoo design these days and many of them feature a quote, saying or word tattoo.

Popular Locations For Men

Shoulder Tattoos – The shoulder has been a popular location for getting a tattoo design for men for a long time. It is not very painful as there is a lot of tissue between the skin and the muscle and it is rather small. This makes a great location for a small saying or quote tattoo design.

Upper Back Tattoo Designs – The upper back is another great choice and location for a large word tattoo design. Since the back is large it provides a big canvas for the tattoo artist to work on. The larger the size the more detail they can add into the tattoo design.

Side Tattoo – The rib cage and side is a very popular area these days to get a tattoo design inked. It offers a pretty large area to work on so the design can be a lore more intricate and full of detail. Some of the most popular choices for this area for guys are quotes, song lyrics and of course ambigram tattoo designs.

Forearm Tattoo – If you have been consider a location that is different, unique and ultra cool you might want to consider getting your literary tattoo design done on your forearm. This size and shape of most forearms are basically rectangular which lends itself to large word designs that are big and bold.

These are just some of the more popular locations that you can get a saying or word tattoo done on your body. It is not an entire list of locations but it shows some of the most popular options. If you are still considering getting a word, saying or quote tattoo make sure you spend the time and research carefully. You want to find the right quote and equally as important you want to find the right font to ink the design.

It is the first morning of our vacation. I wake up bright and early and trot down to the ocean where I make a shocking and bone-chilling discovery: I am the only personage on the beach whose epidermis is unadorned with tattoos. Everyone is inked up except moi. According to the FDA, more than 45 million Americans are now tatted up. This past weekend, they all hit the Florida beaches and pointed jeering tattooed fingers at yours truly. To these folks I am a combo of loser and nemesis, a rebellious nonparticipant in their sick and twisted cult.

I see myself rather differently. From my untattooed point of view, I am the last heroic holdout. I’m like Charlton Heston in The Omega Man, that movie where he plays the one remaining normal person on Earth, and everyone else has gone all ghoulish and ghastly.

The trend for tattoos is not exactly breaking news. But in the last few months, it seems to me that tats have gone from fad to raging unstoppable pandemic. David Beckham, for example, used to have a bit here and a bit there, but now the majority of his upper body is inked. Those of us who follow the annual March Madness NCAA basketball tournament—my husband is a devotee—will have noted this year’s staggering proliferation of tats.

But the new extreme inking is by no means confined to the sporting set. Everywhere I look in Florida, I clock old geezers with hammocks and the word “Margaritaville” emblazoned across their burly sun-blasted torsos. Chicks, too: Today I saw a superannuated South Beach swinger boasting a tarantula on her right shoulder. Every time she hoisted her sippy cup to her lips the spider jiggled. And it’s no longer just a class thingy: I even saw tats at the legendarily WASP-y Bath and Tennis Club in Palm Beach. OK, so they were on the leg of the car-park valet, but just you wait. Next year, the old broads in the canasta salon will be sporting radical ink. Mark my words.

In the past there was one reason, and one reason only, to ink up: A tattoo confirmed your status as a scary outsider rebel carny outlaw sociopath. “Don’t mess with me because I am insane,” was the intended message. And it worked. Remember Robert Mitchum in Night of The Hunter? When he cuts Shelley Winters’ throat we are hardly surprised: We knew trouble was on the horizon as soon as we saw the words LOVE and HATE inked across his knuckles. Tattoos meant mayhem.

Cut to today: Having a tattoo has lost its original meaning. Having a tattoo now has no meaning. Having a tattoo means that you have a tattoo.

While there is no longer any compelling reason to get a tattoo, there are several reasons not to:

Tempus fugit. Sitting around for hours while some dude enlivens your back with lotus blossoms, ghouls, and moonbeams is a colossal waste of time. You could be learning to tap dance or play the accordion.

Money fugit, too. Most tat artists charge about $150 per hour. A full sleeve can take 40 hours. Bingo! $6,000, plus another $6,000 for laser removal when you hit late middle age and it’s gone all crepey and is no longer recognizable as a dragon but looks more like a squashed squirrel. You went from being the girl with the dragon tattoo to the old hag with the squashed-squirrel tattoo, and it only cost you $12K and hours of agony.

Wilkommen, bienvenue Hep C. There seems to be no limit to the horrid medical conditions which are associated with tats. Aside from all the usual blood-born suspects, new research suggests that certain inks do horrid things to your lymph nodes.

The popularity of word and phrase tattoos continues to rise. Unlike large portrait or common design ideas, simple script tattoos can be placed in visible areas for daily reminders of sentiment, inspiration and strength. While there are no hard and fast rules to these simple forms of body inscriptions, the following tips for word and phrase tattoos with ensure you're inking a statement worthy of repeating, over and over again.

1. Spelling
Before tattooing any tattoo or word phrase, make sure the spelling is correct. Capitalize any words that need to be capitalized and ensure the words are otherwise perfect. There will be no changes later so think twice and ink once. This is especially important as well for other language tattoos. If you are tattooing something in a foreign language or a symbol, make sure it is accurate and depicted properly. Cross-check your resources first.

2. Placement
Because the body shifts and changes shape with weight changes and aging, it's important to place your word or phrase tattoo somewhere safe that is less likely to experience variations in weight fluctuations or the effects of gravity. The inner wrists and ankles are safe bets for word tattoos and also allow your to read them on a daily basis, which is sort of the point.

3. Size Matters
Aim to make your tattoo visible and readable from at least ten inches away. You want the letters to be large enough so that as your skin changes, sags or shifts, your tattoo is still visible, easy to read, and still resembling a word rather than a blob of ink. If you need to go larger in scale then be prepared to either shorten your phrase or change the placement. Nothing is worse than a tattoo that can't be understood so make your words count and make them large enough.

4. Have Meaning
Verse, phrase and quote tattoos should bear some significance and meaning in your life. Consider quotes from your favorite books or movies, perhaps a part of a poem or anything else that will serve a greater meaning than just a popular phrase that you may grow tired of later. Don't pick anything trendy or speak in slang. Try to make your quote or phrase tattoo as personal as possible. If you need to wait till that phrase comes to you, then by all means wait. Bear in mind you may not be looking for a phrase at all, but perhaps maybe a simple word tattoos such as believe, hope or love.

5. Find an Artist
Lettering tattoos are very different from portrait and picture design pieces. It helps to take your time to find an artist that really specializes in the form of art. Skill level is important with all tattoos, but lettering and font tattoos beg for attention to detail. References and local recommendations in your area will provide the first step in finding a talented tattoo artist that can make your words eternal.

The first step in solving a personal development problem is admitting that you have one. Here are a few self-help tips to give you an idea of what you can try.

Start organizing your life. When you are organized you have much more of a feeling of being in control, and this will help you gain self confidence. Better yet, you will no longer worry about finding necessary things or dealing with the stress that comes with living in a cluttered environment. Knowing where all of your things are is a great feeling.

Succeed at everything you set your mind to. That passion of yours can put you on the road to success. Now, you cannot be the complete best at everything you do, but it does not hurt to try. Trying for greatness helps inspire others to adapt to the same mindset, giving them a boost of self-worth. Try to boost your worth in your field of work, and enjoy the benefits your self-esteem will get from it.

There will usually be a difference in where you are in life, and where you want to be. You cannot successfully make the journey from here to there if you do not know the intervening territory. If you do not accept your desire to improve your current situation and listen to what you wish for, you will never realize your true potential.

If you are trying to improve yourself, a setback from a failure can seem incredibly demeaning. It is just a learning experience along your path! It is a way to discover what you are good at and what you might struggle with. When you look at it from that perspective, failure can be considered a good thing, as it helps you know more about your personal makeup.

Your mental health can be directly influenced by the physical heath of your body. Make sure you treat your body properly: follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Your mind and body are both part of your whole being; you cannot keep one entirely healthy while neglecting the other.

It isn't possible to care for someone else at your own expense. Be sure to rest, relax, and restore your own mind and body.

Have specific personal development goals that you can succeed with. With your specific goals, success can come. This assists you in overcoming difficult tasks and enjoying quicker success.

You should treat every person in your life with respect, not matter what they can do to benefit you, or how much power you think they have. How you treat someone says a lot about the kind of character you possess.

Use your core principles to guide you as you begin to take action. People have their beliefs that act as the center of themselves. When your core principles are well-thought-out and defensible, acting in accordance with them will improve your self esteem. If your goals are grounded by your principles, you'll be more consistent in pursuing them.

Try this advice and track down any improvements you may notice. Understand that it can't all be accomplished at once.

Although certainly not a new concept, the use of typography (lettering) in tattoo designs has exploded in popularity over the past decade or so. Shelley Jackson's "Skin" Project, Ineradicable Stain, is a movement that has been in progress since 2003. Jackson, a previously published author, decided for her next book to put out a call for volunteers who would tattoo the manuscript on their skin, one word per participant. The novel will not be published anywhere in book form, but will be known only to the volunteers who will each receive one copy upon completion. The term completion, however, is up for interpretation. When Jackson first launched her website and proposed the idea, she stated that if not enough volunteers came forward to complete the first (and only) edition, then the incomplete version would be considered definitive. The words are assigned to volunteers at random, depending on the order in which potential participants sign a release form. The assigned word may be any size but must be tattooed in black ink in a classic book font. The word may be placed anywhere on the human body as long as the volunteer did not receive a word which names a body part. In this case, he or she can tattoo the word anywhere EXCEPT on that body part. (For example, the word "hand" can not be tattooed directly on one's hand.)

She also explains on her website that the participants are not carriers of the text, but are the words themselves, the embodiment of a concept. Any procedure that would later seek to cover up or remove the ink would be considered to alter the work and change the meaning, but only the actual death of words would remove them from the text. Jackson went so far as to say she would make an attempt to attend the funerals of her words. Sounds self-righteous? Perhaps it is, and maybe it seems as though Jackson is removing the autocracy and agency from her participants -- but that hasn't stopped 2,095 volunteers from coming forward.

Here are some examples from Shelley Jackson's SKIN project, along with a few others who are using the art of writing to convey a message best expressed in words rather than images.

Many people are unable to grow as a person because they simply do not know how. Finding the proper advice can be hard as well. That is where the following article comes in. You are going to be given advice that you can use, in order to help your personal development goals.

Use mistakes as growing points. Everyone is going to make mistakes from time to time, whether serious or very minor. Either way you go, you have to understand that these mistakes are sometimes inevitable, and the best thing you can do is learn and grow from these mistakes, using them to propel yourself forward instead of letting them hold you back in frustration and discouragement.

Get plenty of rest. A good night's sleep will not only ward off illnesses, but will also make sure that your mind is crisp and ready for the daily tasks that lay ahead of you. Not getting enough sleep can make you irritable and cranky, and it can literally hinder everything that you do. Don't skimp on the beauty sleep.

Admit your low-level in the universe. Admitting that you do not know all is the beginning of opening your mind, heart and spirit to the rest of the world. Each of us is but a speck in the whole universe, and we each have so much to learn, understand, know and improve.

Learn how to moderate your activities. Self control is an early lesson in personal development, and it can be one of the most difficult to learn. There are many things in your life that can harm your overall health like smoking, excessive drinking and overeating. Learn how to moderate these bad habits or even kick them completely. By succeeding you are giving yourself more time on the planet to achieve your personal development.

When trying to work on your personal development, it is important to have support. Every athlete has a coach right beside them; they would never try and go at it alone. Think of personal development as your sport, and make sure you have a trained professional guiding you along the way.

In order to create a serene environment for yourself you need to take steps to organize your home. Many people start off their day poorly because they are not able to find their keys or their phone in the morning. Taking the time to place those items in a designated spot can help you start your day off well and thus create a better day for yourself.

A great personal development tip is to be sure you regenerate your body on a regular basis. You should exercise your body to gain strength, endurance, and stamina. These characteristics are what allow your body to regenerate itself. Therefore, you should aim to exercise regularly for those aspects, not for vain reasons.

As stated at the beginning of the article, learning what you can do to help yourself grow as a person can be the key to starting the growth process. The article above gave you valuable advice to help you achieve your goal of becoming the person that you would like to be.

Picture
Why do so many people inject ink into their skin at considerable cost and with much discomfort? Why would any rational being want to indelibly mar their otherwise pristine bodies? And why, knowing the inevitable ravages of age, would they want to inflict self-imposed discolored blemishes anywhere on their extremities?

If not for my wimpy squeamishness, I could see getting a tattoo image that represents something near and dear. I cannot say what the allure is, but the tattoo as a personal statement appeals to me on some deep level. Akin to soldiers wearing medals and fruit-salad over their hearts, tattoos symbolize accomplishment -- if only endurance of the vibrating needle. Still, I am terrified by needles of any kind (even sewing), and pain is not a favorite either. So unless forced by evil powers to do so, I am not likely to have a permanent tattoo. But a temporary one? Well, that's a thought.

And now thanks to Tattly, a new line of temporary designer tattoos, I see the possibility of body decoration in my future.

Tattly is a venture by Tina Roth Eisenberg, the designer and design blogger known as Swiss Miss. A native of Switzerland, her site and Twitter feed are followed by thousands of young designers, and her curated "Creative Mornings" talks by known and up-and-coming industry professionals are extremely well attended. With such a targeted audience, she is in the perfect entrepreneurial trajectory for making and selling design-things, of which temporary tattoos are high on her latest list.

What triggered this venture occurred when her five-year old-daughter, Ella. would come home with temporary tattoos. They would "send a shiver down my spine," Eisenberg told me. "Cheaply designed, clip-art graphics, bad typography, you get the idea. I found myself complaining about them, over and over and realized that I can either continue complaining about it or change it."

As a consequence, she reached out to designers she admires, presented them with the idea of designing for "skin" and, within a day, had dozens of submissions in her email inbox. "My idea was welcomed with a lot of excitement," she reported, "I knew I was on to something." From idea to launch of site, it only took two months. Now she's making a profit.

Although Eisenberg acknowledges there is silly element to this, it is also fulfilling a curious, indeed primal, need both to make and wear. Even I have been wearing one for a few weeks that says "MAMA" set in a swirling swash type (designed by my wife, Louise Fili).

Each week, Eisenberg issues four new designs. "We have lots of designs in the pipeline as is and don't really accept submissions," she noted. "We might change that. People really, really want to send in submissions."

When I made a passing comment that Tattly was a novelty item -- a designer's version of the pet rock -- Eisenberg was quick to to take umbrage: "I think of it more like an accessory. Accessories change, adapt to the times and fashion trends. So do we." Okay, granted that Tattly is an accessory, would people wear temporary tats?

"Why do people wear bracelets or fancy hats? It's a form of self-expression," Eisenberg explained. "Plus, temporary tattoos let commitment-phobes toy with the idea of having a tattoo. Some of our folks just want to freak their parents out. I personally just want to feed my inner child."

Is this a sideline or an entrepreneurial stepping stone? "It's just the way I function," Eisenberg concludes, hinting that she needs to get back to work. "I see something that I want to fix and I do it. I am a maker at heart. I coudn't find the right office environment so I created it. I couldn't find the right to-do app, so I made my own. I wanted a more accessible conference-like event, so I created one. My daughter wore ugly temporary tattoos, so I started Tattly. I am just a very pragmatic person."

Tatty is a pragmatic way for neophytes to test the tattoo scene. Problem is, so far mine has been difficult to wash off.
